Get Your NBN Pit & Pipe Design
It can take six months to get your comms connected so you need to get started today!.
NBN’s New Development Process
As per the Telecommunications Act your subdivision needs to be fibre ready. This means making sure your new development has the pit and pipe infrastructure installed and ready for a NBN connection.
Step 1 – Early Planning
As with any project whether it’s a complex one or just a simple 2 lot sub division early planning is key. To get started I will need a few fundamental pieces of information. You don’t have to be the principle contractor, you can either be a Level Three ASP or an architect or even just the property owner but either way I will need to get from you the following.

Step 2 – Submit Application
Check Eligibility
Using the information received as in step 1, I check what service will be available for your site. Not all areas (currently) will have access to fixed line NBN . You can also check if NBN is available in your are by visiting the NBN roll out site.
I will submit your application and talk to/ email NBN account managers to ensure that I can deliver the correct design standards. If NBN fixed line isn’t available you will probaby qualify for wireless or satelite NBN.
The application approval can take up to 20 days and when it has been approved I will then complete and submit the design for further approvals.
Agree to the terms and conditions
Once you have paid the charges and agreed to the terms, if it applies for your development, you will be sent a letter of conditional approval (also known as a provisioning or council letter).
Step 3 – Design and build to NBN Standards
Before the nbn access network can be installed, the development’s design and build must meet all the requirements and standards set out by nbn.
I work through a series of checklists and guidelines to assist in this process. The responsibility completely lies with the developer to ensure that the pit and pipe has been installed to the relevant standards and there for have a design that has been developed but an experienced and accredited designer is critical.

A Few Things I Need To Complete Your Design And Application.
Whilst you are waiting for your quote here are a few of the fundamental things I will need when we get started.
1. Development Address
This needs to be the most recent address listed on your council documents or development plan. This address must have no previous nbn™ connection.
2. The total number of new NBN connections
The total number of connections must include:
- All new dwellings or lots that have no existing NBN connection
- All other services that require NBN connections such as fire alarms and elevator phones.
3. Development Details
This includes what type of development it is. A few exmples are whether it’s an empty lot or a subdivision of land.
Ialso need to know ocupancy dates.
4. Contact Details
For the new connection application I will need to know the details for developer and their billing details. This is to allow NBN to send out the contracts for new developments.
NBN will also require you pay the developer contribution charges.
