Early Planning
As with any project whether it’s a complex one or just a simple 2 lot sub division early planning is key. To get started I will need a few fundamental pieces of information. You don’t have to be the principle contractor, you can either be a Level Three ASP or an architect or even just the property owner but either way I will need to get from you the following.
- Developer or Business name
- Business ABN (if there is one?)
- Address of the site or lot
- Any DA information
- Name of the contract signatory
- Email of the contract signatory
- Postal Address
- The person who will be paying for the developer fees
- An AutoCad DWG file that is correctly GEO referenced
Now is not a bad time to talk about the potential fees involved in getting your NBN or Telstra project underway. You can go direct to the NBN website to see the latest costs and fees that will be sent to you or the nominated person. I also provide a summary of NBN costs.
Checking Eligibility
Using the information received as in step one I check what service will be available for your site. Not all areas (currently) will have access to NBN so I will then submit an application to Telstra. You can also check if NBN is available in your are by visiting the NBN roll out site.
I will submit your application and talk to/ email the relevant service provider to ensure that I can deliver the correct design standards. If NBN isn’t available I will design and submit a Telstra plan as they both have to meet the same standards.
The application approval can take up to 20 days and when it has been approved I will then complete and submit the design for further approvals.
Compliant Design
Before the nbn access network can be installed, the development’s design and build must meet all the requirements and standards set out by nbn or Telstra.
I work through a series of checklists and guidelines to assist in this process. The responsibility completely lies with the developer to ensure that the pit and pipe has been installed to the relevant standards and there for have a design that has been developed but an experienced and accredited designer is critical.
